GetYourGuide Launches First U.S. National Campaign, Drives Continued Expansion

Leading platform to discover, book travel experiences signals added investment in the Americas, including opening a Mexico City office to further serve the region

NEW YORK and BERLIN (Jan. 19, 2023) – GetYourGuide, the world’s leading platform to discover and book travel experiences, today announced key momentum milestones for the business, including the launch of its first national brand campaign in the U.S., continued marketing initiatives, and will open a new regional office in Mexico City this spring.

Launch of GetYourGuide’s First National Marketing Campaign in North America

Less than a year after the launch of GetYourGuide’s international brand campaign around making memories, GetYourGuide’s brand team is launching its first U.S. national ad campaign, leveraging a U.S.-focused version. The ad creative features what it is like to experience iconic cultural touchpoints up close, which is especially relevant as a recent GetYourGuide survey* noted 84 percent of Americans plan to spend the same or more on travel experiences in 2024. Remarkably, the same survey noted 97 percent of Americans planned to take at least one leisure trip in 2024 - despite inflation.

Activities include whitewater rafting in the Grand Canyon, sampling the iconic pastrami sandwich from Katz’s Deli and seeing New York from above at Top of the Rock, serving as trip inspiration to Americans, 83 percent of which reported they planned to travel within the next six months. The advertisements will air starting mid-January across the U.S., with presence in major popular culture touchpoints, giving the experience industry primetime viewership on events such as the AFC and NFC Championship games (NFL), March Madness (NCAA), and the Academy Awards.

GetYourGuide drives global initiatives

As a two-sided marketplace that serves both travelers and travel operators, GetYourGuide has regional offices around the world to support cultural institutions, independent small businesses, and leading local attractions to reach global experience seekers.

“We are looking forward to further collaborating with travel operators in Mexico, Caribbean and Central America, which include some of the most traveled-to destinations for Americans,” said Tao Tao, co-founder and COO of GetYourGuide. “We are eager to work with top attractions, tourism entrepreneurs and regional organizations to make the most out of increasing digital demand for things to do – a recent GetYourGuide survey showed that consumers are planning to spend the same or more on activities in 2024 despite inflation,” said Tao.

In addition, as part of GetYourGuide’s continued momentum in Europe, the travel experience platforms will increase marketing initiatives in two markets, France and the UK, including a Blue Monday campaign.

“As consumers continue to shift their spending habits away from traditional retail to experiences, there is a great opportunity for travel operators – what we call experience creators – to reach global customers who are continuing to prioritize spending on tours, activities and things to do,” said GetYourGuide CMO Emil Martinsek. “At the end of 2023, we reached 135 million tickets sold since the start of GetYourGuide – evidence that consumers are continuing to look for and book travel experiences,” said Martinsek.

This news is on the heels of two other important milestones for the company: the recent hire of a new Chief People Officer, Genevieve Vancutsem-Zednik, the launch of a partnership with Air India and the launch of GetYourGuide on the OpenAI GPT Store as the first experience brand on the platform.
