GetYourGuide, the world’s leading travel experience platform, has proven resilient during the COVID-19 pandemic. By leveraging its expertise — unlocking unforgettable moments of discovery and joy through its data- and tech- driven approach and a unique inventory of highly curated experiences — the company recovered from the pandemic ahead of the market and faster than most competitors. This summer, GetYourGuide has capitalized on trends and economic tailwinds to curate new kinds of meaningful travel and destination experiences with today’s modern and digitally-focused traveler in mind.

Introducing two new brand-building summer campaigns

In May 2022, GetYourGuide introduced “Turning the lights on at the Vatican Museums,” a free and exclusive tour where a small group of travelers are able to explore the centuries-old Museums and experience the moment when the lights are turned on in the Sistine Chapel before the arrival of 25,000 tourists each day. Head Key Keeper Gianni Crea, who has held the keys for the past 25 years, leads each group through the historic rooms — many of which are not typically open to visitors — and entertains travelers with insights and anecdotes not found in any guidebook.

Last month, July 2022, GetYourGuide took a different approach in another unforgettable location, forging a partnership with Emmy Award-winning actor and comedian Leslie Jordan, who became the unlikely tour guide to a group of travelers in New York City for the day. On a first-of-its-kind tour, Jordan took the group on the ride of a lifetime, dropping names, tips, reviews and more — presenting the iconic city through his own lens and delighting passengers along the way.

These latest summer campaigns have been extremely well received: A video of the Vatican Museums experience has been viewed over 340,000 times, and the tour was picked up by a variety of international media outlets, while its organic and viral reach via social media was more than double that of GetYourGuide's regular campaigns. At the same time, the New York City bus tour sold out within 12 hours and GetYourGuide’s social post to launch the tour had a 3.4x better engagement rate than the company’s year-to-date average.

Accelerating growth in key markets

There is enormous potential for both digitization and technology in the current travel industry. In 2019, around 80% of experiences were still booked offline, while today more than 60% are booked online, an estimated $172.5 billion (170 billion euros) market of tickets, tours and attractions consumed by travelers. GetYourGuide is poised for continued growth thanks to its extensive inventory and digital marketing approach.

GetYourGuide offers more than 60,000 experiences, with approximately 250 new tours added each week, provided by over 13,000 experience creators.  As a result, two of its core markets, Germany and the U.S., are currently experiencing triple-digit growth, respectively. In both countries, the company is steadily growing its brand presence, becoming the choice for travelers seeking both domestic and global experiences. This year, GetYourGuide’s domestic bookings are up nearly 4x and the company has experienced 150% growth in the U.S. alone compared to the same period in 2019. During the same timeframe, the company more than doubled its global growth by the end of the second quarter in 2022.

GetYourGuide is already working on activations and partnerships for 2023 that build on this year's successes through a variety of new, exclusive and memorable experiences. For more information, please visit www.GetYourGuide.com.

Our goal is to define and continue to lead the ever-evolving 'experience' category within the travel industry by unlocking the door to something you can't get anywhere else — both figuratively and literally.
